of unassembled saw parts out of the back of a tractor trailer truck into my driveway without a loading dock or a lift gate. When I installed the legs according to the instructions, they are splayed out at different angles, not even close to square. The bottom line for us on this product, is it exceeded every expectation. The free 'supersaver shipping' on this Goliath, was out of a full size semi truck, with no lift gate. If something didn't line up right the first time, I took it apart, figured out why and reassembled it correctly. This was the highest end saw I could afford as a homeowner/hobbyist and I'm thrilled with it overall. Most other shipping services specify, "lift gate and residential delivery service, $150 extra." And they will NOT deliver this way. It worked better for me that way.The assembly instructions specify in a couple of places, it would be easier if you have a buddy help do this or do that.
It took me four days, but it can be done. This saw is the single most expensive thing I ever purchased online, (and the heaviest, at a whopping total of around 400 lbs.). That type of service is extremely rare for me to find these days. That is a true statement, but one I did not have the luxury of exercising. :) I already gave the packaging people a positive review, but I didn't see a place to give the SHIPPING guy his, what a guy. I think the sequence of a couple of the steps, could be revised to facilitate ease of assembly, because I read ahead and performed some of them out of sequence, to prevent having to work upside down or on my back under the saw after it was righted. I hope someone at Amazon, can pass my most sincere thanks to this guy.The sum total of the parts, arrived in 5 different boxes, on two consecutive days, and they were all in pristine condition. So we were pretty antsy about when it would arrive, what kind of shape it would arrive in, difficulty level of assembly, etc.
This is a once in a lifetime project for me.The only part of the entire assembly that did not meet my expectation was the Table Board Legs. That's why I didn't rate this saw at five stars. I took my time, cleaned all of the parts, and aligned everything properly. After my helpful delivery guy left, I unpacked this beast and assembled it unassisted. Although, there were eight, cheesy, carbon steel 5/16" lock washers that were provided with the assembly that when used, simply flattened and sprung out of shape too bad to be of any use, minor stuff and easily fixed with a trip to the hardware store. The assembly instructions included with the saw, were clear, easy to read, accurate, and the English was perfect.
I do feel it is an excellent product and value for the price. I'm going to have to fabricate something to remedy this. I would buy the same product again, I would recommend it to anyone else looking to equip a wood shop with a mobile table saw for around a grand (instead of two to three for a cabinet saw). The screws mounting them to the table board itself, I can see are NOT adequate for keeping them secured to the underside of the table with the entire assembly sitting in a mobile stand. It arrived, three and a half business days after we placed our order online, Amazon services in this regard are simply amazing.
I filed the edges of the cast iron wings, and tapped and cleaned the bolt holes in them too. :) There were a few small details that were a little difficult for me to understand, but I accept responsibility for being a little slow to understand. This delivery man helped me muscle 300 lbs. Once I opened the packages and began assembling the saw, every single nut, bolt and washer was included in the inventory, not a single extra, nor one missing.
i also thought the design of the extension table was very good and durable and it pretty much lined right up with the table with the help of a few quick clamps.overall- a VERY beefy contractor saw (not looking fwd to having to relocate when we buy a new house) and very accurate. all i can say is it falls exactly where it should- it blows away the craftsmen and has the expected limitations and differences from the cab saw.on its own merit (even tho i'm cutting with a crap blade til a new one arrives) it cuts very accurately for my purposes and while it took a few hours to set up, i thought that process was actually kinda enjoyable and fairly straightforward.i recommend this pkg w/ the extension table w/ 50" rails because it's already improved my skills and accuracy rather than jerry rigging a table out to the right. i'm glad i got this pkg even tho it dominates my very small shop- someday in my dreams i'll have a good sized shop where this will fit just right. firstly, let me praise the shipping speed/quality. i imagine this thing will truly kick butt when i change out the blade and the belt. i was actually a bit horrified it showed up so quick and had to leave it in the dining room unpacked for three weeks while i set up my shop. i was blown away when i ordered the saw on a tuesday and it showed up THAT SATURDAY. not complaining, just stunned at how good amazon/PM and their shippers were in getting it to me so quick and in perfecr condition.as for the saw, it's tough for me to provide a realistic basis for comparison, as i've only used my very cheap craftsmen (which totally served its purpose while i saved my pennies for the PM), and a beautiful 30 yr old cabinet saw at the adult ed place i've taken classes at.
I recently owned the Jet saw that is supposed to be identical, and the Powermatic stands head and shoulders above. When you buy this saw, you get all the best of a cabinet saw (fence, stability, etc) at a contractor's saw price. There was nothing wrong with the Jet, but the Powermatic is just much smoother. I have used them all; Jet, Delta, Grizzly, etc. This is by far the best contractor saw that I have worked with.
Thank-you John Adams/Adams Custom BuildersEldorado Springs, Co This saw is a great saw for the price. It set up well and is a joy to use.
That one was more out of tolerance than the first. He (son) has made other arrangements for a saw.
Perhaps you received a bad batch of saws from Powermatic. We do most of our tool business with you and are sorry that this happened, which I am sure you are also.
We sent our son a powermatic saw for Christmas. I have an email which states that you will credit us for the saw.
Vernon Harrington When it arrived and when assembled the table was way out of tolerance. So he called Tool Crib and arrangements were made to return the old one and send a new one, which you very nicely did.
So he called and both saws were picked up at the same time.
